Eating Crow… As per Usual

So…  Last year when I saw that Birkenstock sandals were “back” I pretty much rolled my eyes and scoffed at the idea. I probably even uttered the words “there is NO way I will ever wear those again”. I don’t like to revisit many trends. I’m generally a one and done kind of a person. I have made the exception for skinny jeans, because those are a staple.

I had Birks back in the early 90’s. I actually had several pairs. They were of the earth muffin/tree hugger variety though, and I do recall sporting some wool socks with them now and again. What? I went through a hippie phase. I’m not proud, but yeah… It happened and I fully own it.

Anyhoo…

I kept seeing at lot of the Scandinavian bloggers wearing Birkenstocks with monochromatic black and/or white clothes and I really dug the look. Admitting it was pretty hard, you guys. I wanted to find some comfortable black sandals for our trip to Paris later this summer and I kept returning to the Birkenstocks. GAH. So, I gave in and ordered a pair to “try”. OK, I ordered three pairs and kept these. Go for the soft foot bed. You deserve it.

Where did I wear this? Work. I usually reserve the Birkenstocks for casual Friday, but sported them mid-week to work because I am a rebel like that.

  1. Another elegant ensemble — did not think Birks could look that stylish. Still don’t think I can revisit them, but as you say, never say never. It’s good to see you back blogging — hope your craziness at work has quieted down in time for summer. I see Coach and Kate Spade are having big sales — you always have great purses, any recommendations?

  2. I LOVE this look! I also had Birks in college, back in the early 90’s…I seriously doubt mine were the real deal, though, as I frequented the couch for change LOL, but I do remember whatever brand I wore, they were super comfortable.

  3. I have also said no, but I keep eyeing them up….I am seriously considering it after seeing your chic all black look. I hope you take lots of pictures and report back on your trip. I went to Paris about 15 years ago and really want to go back.

  4. Hi – I just got back from Europe (London, Paris), and I saw a LOT of Birkenstocks, mostly in white patient and black. I wore them a while back as well, and after seeing them again, I might bite the bullet and get a white pair. Have fun in Paris – we loved it!!!!

    1. Thanks for letting me know about the Birks. I had heard that they are quite popular again in Europe right now. I don’t want to look like a doofus in Paris. It’s pretty much the fashion capital of the world, right?
