40 + Style Fall/Autumn Work Wear

You Can Wear Over the Knee Boots to the Office

My husband refers to me as “Puss ‘n boots” when I wear over the knee boots. Ha! He’s not a fan of the trend, but it seems to be holding on strong. Sorry, babe. I like boots. Short boots. Tall boots. Booties. Over the knee boots. Boots, boots, boots!

My favorite way to wear over the knee boots is to wear them with a shorter skirt and opaque tights. Opaque tights with a shorter skirt is key. I’d generally wear a wee bit shorter skirt, but I wore this to the office and wanted to keep it clean. I work in HR. I’ve got a reputation to protect. If only they knew…

I’ve been trying to branch out and find new stores. A girl cannot live on J. Crew alone! You guys…  I am SO very picky. However, I have recently found some sweaters at Athleta that I really like. The one I’m wearing above is merino wool and so comfortable!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. It’s too bad that there aren’t more mass appeal stores with the style of JCrew…I grew up in the 80’s and appreciate their classic/preppy vibe, even though I’m in my 50’s. What I don’t appreciate is that they don’t carry size 14 in the brick and mortar stores, only “on line”…and they don’t even make a pant above a size “32” – what’s a curvy girl to do??

    1. I agree. The quality of items out there is just sub par too. Ann Taylor used to be great. You could always count on Ann Taylor to find a dress for a special occasion and now everything is just poorly made.

  2. BTW – you look adorable! I am a firm believer in an opaque tight and a shorter skirt…if you’ve got it, flaunt it!!

  3. This is a great look. I’ve been thinking about tall boots but kept thinking about Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (not that I look like her!) and wasn’t sure how to style them but this is a perfectly non-prostitute look for work! And husbands! I was wearing a “military” style jacket the other day and my husband called me Sargent Pepper. Have you tried White House Black Market? About the same prices as J. Crew and some classic working woman pieces. Good luck!

  4. I went into J Crew and fondled that purse just because you showed it on the blog, and now I have to go to Athleta to try on sweaters. I’m too short for OTK boots but I like the outfit!

    1. I have always liked their clothes. I used to get their catalog… I wish we had an actual store here. I went to one in Austin, TX and was impressed with quality. I hate ordering online not knowing how stuff fits though. Ugh.
